Classic IKEA Meatballs with Cream Sauce

Ingredients
  

Meatballs

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • ½ lb ground pork
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1 egg beaten
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • to taste salt and black pepper

Cream Sauce

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard

Instructions
 

  • In a bowl, mix ground beef, pork, onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, spices, salt, and pepper. Form into 1-inch meatballs.
  • Heat oil in a skillet and brown meatballs in batches. Cook until fully cooked through. Set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter and whisk in flour to create a roux. Cook for 1 minute.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth, followed by cream, soy sauce, and mustard. Simmer until thickened.
  • Add meatballs back to the skillet and coat with sauce. Simmer for a few more minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes, buttered noodles, or steamed vegetables. Add lingonberry jam on the side for authentic Swedish flair!
