Ingredients
- 1 tbsp loose yerba mate leaves
- 8 oz
1 cup hot water (not boiling, about 160-180°F or 70-80°C)
- Optional: Honey
lemon, or mint for flavor
Instructions
1. Heat water to 160-180°F (70-80°C). Avoid boiling water, as it can make the tea bitter.
2. Place yerba mate leaves in a gourd, teapot, or cup.
3. Slowly pour a little hot water over the leaves to moisten them. Let sit for 30 seconds.
4. Fill the cup with the remaining hot water.
5. If using a traditional gourd, insert a bombilla (filtered straw) and sip.
6. If using a regular cup, strain before drinking.
7. Add honey, lemon, or mint if desired.
