  • Author: Chef Clara
  • Total Time: 7 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving

Description

Yerba Mate tea is a traditional South American herbal drink rich in antioxidants and caffeine, offering a natural energy boost.

Ingredients

– 1 tbsp loose yerba mate leaves

– 8 oz (1 cup) hot water (not boiling, about 160-180°F or 70-80°C)

– Optional: Honey, lemon, or mint for flavor

Instructions

1. Heat water to 160-180°F (70-80°C). Avoid boiling water, as it can make the tea bitter.

2. Place yerba mate leaves in a gourd, teapot, or cup.

3. Slowly pour a little hot water over the leaves to moisten them. Let sit for 30 seconds.

4. Fill the cup with the remaining hot water.

5. If using a traditional gourd, insert a bombilla (filtered straw) and sip.

6. If using a regular cup, strain before drinking.

7. Add honey, lemon, or mint if desired.

Notes

– Yerba mate can be steeped multiple times, with each infusion slightly weaker.

– Traditional preparation uses a gourd and bombilla straw.

– Experiment with different flavors like cinnamon or ginger.
